H-1B visa in just two years!

The U.S. immigration system is taking significant steps towards key reforms. Jessica M. Vaughn, from the Center for Immigration Studies, proposed crucial changes during a hearing on "Restoring Immigration Enforcement in America" before the U.S. House Committee. She suggested reducing the current three-year H-1B visas for skilled foreign workers to just two years and allowing extensions only for up to four years if necessary. She also proposed eliminating the automatic extension of H-1B visas for those who have applied for a Green Card. Furthermore, Vaughn recommended limiting the number of H-1B visas to 75,000 annually. She also suggested that foreign students coming to the U.S. on F-1 or M-1 visas sign an agreement to return to their home country after completing their studies.

Staying in the U.S. After Visa Expiration

Jessica M. Vaughn highlighted that many foreign nationals, especially students and exchange visitors, continue to stay in the U.S. even after their visa expiration. She pointed out that in 2023, there were 7,000 Indian nationals among those staying illegally after their visa expired, followed by over 2,000 individuals from Brazil, China, and Colombia.
