Sam’s Southern Eatery Expands Its Footprint in East Wichita

A New Chapter for Southern Dining

Wichita is about to get another serving of Southern hospitality with the third Sam’s Southern Eatery location opening soon. Emanuel Ashiedu, a Salina-based software engineer and committed restaurateur, is spearheading this exciting project. The new restaurant will be located at 6121 E. 21st St., a building with a long local history — first constructed as a Long John Silver’s in the 1980s and later transformed into Clouds, a daiquiri lounge turned Mediterranean restaurant. Now, this well-known spot will offer a fresh take on beloved Southern cuisine.

Introducing Drive-Through Convenience

For the first time in Wichita, Sam’s Southern Eatery will offer a drive-through service, making it easier than ever for customers to enjoy their favorite dishes on the go. Although this location is more compact than the other branches, Emanuel Ashiedu sees it as a chance to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction. The drive-through menu will include popular selections like:

• Crispy Fried Catfish

• Jumbo Fried Shrimp

• Classic Po' Boy Sandwiches

For those dining inside, the restaurant will offer its full, extensive menu.

Their journey began with the first Wichita location in early 2024 at the former DeFazio’s space near 29th and Amidon. The second location followed later that year at 6600 W. Central. Both locations have quickly become community favorites.

Looking Toward the Future

This East Wichita expansion is only part of the growth plan. Emanuel Ashiedu is already scouting for a site on Wichita’s south side for yet another drive-through location. This continued expansion reflects the strong demand for Sam’s Southern Eatery’s unique flavors and customer-friendly approach.
