Adilabad: The Nagoba Jatara, the second-largest tribal festival in Asia, is being celebrated with grandeur. The number of devotees attending the festival is growing, with the key event of the festival taking place today at Keslapur in the Indrawelli mandal of Adilabad district. On the third day of the festival, the most significant event, the Nagoba Darbar, is being held, as per tradition. Today's events include the Nagoba Darbar, tomorrow's Betel Pujas, Mandagaziling, and the Shampur Jatara on Sunday. A Darbar will be held on Friday under the guidance of the district collector to address tribal issues.
The Darbar serves as a platform for people to directly communicate their issues to the authorities and elected representatives. The first Nagoba Darbar was held in 1942. Officials from ITDA (Integrated Tribal Development Agency), along with various government department officials from the district, will collect applications from the tribals and resolve issues after conducting field-level inspections. The district collector Rajarshi Shato, ITDA project officer Khushboo Gupta, SP Gaus Alam, and senior officials from different departments will attend the Darbar. On Saturday, Betel Pujas, Mandagaziling, and Sunday’s Shampur Jatara are scheduled.
The Darbar is being held under the leadership of Hyman Dorf, a prominent figure in the study of tribal issues, who was sent by the Nizam government to study the problems of tribal communities. The Darbar, which Hyman Dorf initiated, continues to this day. On the day of the Darbar, not only tribals from Telangana but also from neighboring states gather in large numbers. During the Darbar, tribals present their issues to the representatives and officers, hoping that the promises made by the authorities will be fulfilled.
As part of the Nagoba Jatara, special poojas were performed on Thursday at the Nagoba Temple, with offerings to the family deities Perspan and Bhan Devata. Newly purchased chickens were brought to the temple to participate in the special pooja. A large number of devotees have gathered for the Nagoba Jatara and are visiting the temple to seek blessings.
